Is it easy?

"Enter the story" is created with Adventure Game Studio 2.72, the world's most popular adventure game creation system, and probably the easiest to use. With its easy tutorials and helpful online community, anyone can make their own adventure games.

Why should you make your game fit into Enter The Story?

One of the hardest parts of making a game is all the "behind the scenes" stuff. What do the characters look like? How to do the menus and load and save? This is all decided for you. The whole look and feel of Enter The Story is designed for easy game creation. The main character is seldom visible. Other characters are drawn with a minimalist style. There is no spoken audio. Everything is designed to make your job easier.

This is an easy way to make a small game look big. You can choose the shortest story you like, and since it becomes part of a huge game world then it makes a tiny game look bigger and more significant.

And of course your game remains your own property. You can still use it on your own site or do what you want with it.

How to make your game part of Enter The Story
1. Use Adventure Game Studio version 2.72  Later versions are not all compatible with earlier versions. And avoid using plugins, as they don't work under Linux.
2. Base your story on an out of copyright (public domain) story. And check carefully. To be perfectly safe, stick with stories published in the 1800s or earlier.
3. Be careful with trademarks. If the story has been used for a movie or a musical, then make sure your pictures look different.
4. Be careful with licenses. The safest thing is to use pictures and music you've made yourself, or search for "Creative Commons" material and look at the license. It must be acceptible for "derivative" and also "commercial" use. And be sure to credit the artist!
5. Use the white minimalist style for your graphics, as in the other stories. Yours doesn't have to be exactly the same, but your story should not look out of place.
6. This is the clever bit: When your games nearly finishedand you know where you want the game to connect with the rest of Enter The Story, let me know, and I'll send you the necessary code.
7. When you've done, send me a copy via the blog, and I'll add it to the next release of the game! I don't need the source files, you still retain ownership and will be credited in the game. And you are still free to use your game on its own however you wish.
